Andrena haemorrhoa on apples |
Apples are a
globally important fruit crop and they require insect pollination to achieve
good yields. Bees and hoverflies are
important pollinators of apples, but there is evidence that many of these
pollinators are in global decline. In
the UK there is a need to find out which insect pollinators are contributing to
apple production, and whether the pollination that these insects provide is
meeting the demands of the apple industry, or if production is currently
limited by a lack of insect pollinators.
